why is NASCAR consider a redneck sport but F1 is not?

Why do people see NASCAR as a redneck sport. But not F1 Racing. Is it cause NASCAR has roots in the south while F1 is European and watched around the world.

No one throws beer cans at F1 races.
Throwing beer cans on worldwide television makes the whole sport look bad.

  2. Gavin H says:

You answered your own question buddy.

  3. Jordy says:

people refer to it as a redneck sport because it originally started off with bootleggers, and part of what u said having a big part of it in the south

  4. WILD MAN says:

It’s because all us country boys and girls.

  5. Justin says:

in F1 you have to have a doctorates to be involved in the pit crew due to the technology involved

in NASCAR you just have to be smarter than everyone else

You sort of answered the question yourself. Nascar’s stereotype is Southern blue collar type and F1 attracts sort of the opposite. F1 is certainly more pretentious, as well as more glamorous. I love both F1 and Nascar and when people ask me the difference I say, Nascar is cold draft beer and F1 is a fine glass of wine. Both are great. It depends on what kind of mood you’re in.

  7. know it all says:

yes, you answered your own question. and most southerners are proud of our heritage, we are not insulted by the redneck label, we only smile and roll our eyes at people who think we’re somehow not as intelligent or worldly as people from the northern US, it’s something yankees tell themselves to help with their self esteem i think. i can’t wait ’till richmond so i can toss some beer cans out onto the track.

You have answered your own question.
F1 with its European roots has always been
regarded as a highly technical discipline and
thrived in part because of that image.
NASCAR is obviously US based and was
very much a southern based sport for many
    years.History of moonshine runners and
all that stuff romanticizing its heritage.
In reality today many of the prominent people
in the sport are far from being good old southern boys
and the business model is highly sophisticated.
People like to play off the redneck image both as a positive
or negative based on their point of view.

  9. caveman says:

Nascar is from the Southeastern United States and F! is from Europe that is why.

  10. mike the dj says:

    Simply put, yes.

  11. Richard W says:

NASCAR is watched all around the world as well..
NASCAR costs tens of millions, and is a “blue collar” sport..
F1 costs hundreds of millions, and the drivers often contributes to the bill, or “brings” sponsorship.. Not exactly junk yard jalopys, or poor young men with a dream..

  12. fluffy says:

    rednecks build better race cars

  13. emiller1998 says:

    Eurotrash isn’t redneck.

  14. Love The Beast Falcon XB GT says:

Shirtless rednecks throwing Budwieser cans and getting arrested actually happened at an F1 race in Europe!!!
I was like no way! How worldly. lol

  15. clark says:

    F-1 is very elitist stuff.
NASCAR is all the rest of us………
