Cars are designed in such a way so that increasing cornering speeds are in safe ranges. Performance of cars is highly dependent on various factors like aerodynamics, electronics, suspension and tyres.

Formula 1 generally ranks second just behind the Champions league final or if the European championships or world cup is on it comes behind that. Definitely behind soccer but afterall there are soccer leagues all over the world and hundreds of clubs. There is only one f1 and 10 teams.
