Since the last few years SpeedTV bought the rights to broadcast F1 in the USA showing the practices, qualifying and races live. This year Speed’s parent company FOX decided to broadcast 4 Grand Prix and showing them on tape delay in more prime time. The last of those 4 races was today’s Hungarian Grand Prix. Therefore the remaining 7 races of the season will be on SpeedTV. You will be able to see the second Fri. practice live, Sat qualifying live and Sunday race live. You will need to check the U.S. correspondent times as they vary according to where in the world they race.
Years ago, ABC had sporadic races (when F1 was racing in North America) and ESPN had some solitary coverages here and there. But not any longer. The contract is with SpeedTV. After today (with the last FOX broadcast of the year) if you don’t SpeedTV, you will be out of luck, unless you have a satellite which you can program it to see some foreign channels like BBC, Italian RAI, etc.). Some people watch F1 races through live streaming videos on computers. Quality is usually poor, and sometimes broadcasts are stopped in the middle due to copyrights violations. When I had no choice I tried and I used http://www.justin.tv Not so good, but better than nothing.
Historically, SPEED carries the practice and qualifying sessions – usually on Friday and Saturday mornings around 7:00 or 8:00 am Eastern time. Then the race – usually about the same time on Sunday mornings.
This year, for the first time (and I hope to hell the LAST TIME!), FUX (you might call it FOX) is carrying four tape delayed Sunday afternoon airings. Today is the last time this season we’ll have to put up with the broadcast delays and the retards at FUX. So from now on, you’ll join those of us who’ve been watching at weird early morning hours for years now.
You can also do a google or yahoo search under ‘Formula One live video.’ I got you started with one link, below.
lately speed hasn’t been showing the actual F1 races live. Just a recap or debrief days later… usually in the middle of the day on a work day.
F1’s US cable home is Speed
while FOX airs some races too
both FOX and Speed are owned by News Corp.
