The team who the current world champion drives for gets numbers 1 and 2, regardless where the team came in the constructors championship.
The remaining teams numbers are determined by the order in which they finish in the constructors championship.
So if Mark Webber was number 14, red bull will have finished 7th in the constructors championship the year before. The number is assigned to the chassis of the car, not the driver.
The team that houses the world champion will get 1 & 2. The champion brings numbers 1 & 2 with him.. he is number 1. The rest depends entirely on where the others finished in the previous championship.
As BrawnGP won the championship (MercedesGP) they will get the next two numbers, 3 & 4. Then depending on where the other teams finished they will get the rest of the points. Red Bull were 2nd in the championship so they get 5 & 6. (Mark webber is no longer number 14, he is number 6.)
Then it was Ferrari, Williams so on & so on…..
i don’t think i understand your question. his number is 14. Thats his car number. whenever he’s listed in the standings or on the grid in a race, say he’s in 5th position… “In 5th place is the number 14 car of Mark Weber…”
there is the number the driver comes in the championship the following year, as schumacker didnt compete in the last year he can change, well i guess so anyways.
Shuey has always won with an odd number so he swapped with Rosberg to number 3. its the cars that has the number & the driver will always drive THAT car.
Most are just ‘their favourite number’ but its also linked with their position in the previous season!
