Do you own a race car? Without one, you won’t be able to race at your local track. Best thing to do is head for a kart track, rent a kart and start driving. Next step would be to buy your own kart and start racing. After that you can possibly move up to Formula Ford and Formula 2000.
Formula Vee racing is a very affordable and competitive form of racing. Depending on where you are, you should be able to contact your local racing authority and find out more. Formula Vee are an open-wheeler smaller version of a Formula Ford, utilising a Volkswagon engine.
What kind of racing are you looking to get into? There are many forms of racing for all different age groups.
For kids up to 16, you could race a quarter midget, go-kart, or jr. dragster
For ages 14+ you could race a slingshot or a micro sprint
For ages 16+ you could race almost anything from a stock car to a real sprint car, even a drag car I think
