Have There Been Many Prominent Jews In F1 Racing? We know there has been a lot of antisemitic sentiment shown by key Formula 1 people such as Mosley and Eccelstone but have there been many (given Jews are only part of one percent of the world) Jews in F1 over the years. I heard Jean Todt is Jewish and that Jodi Schecter is Jewish. Any others? The Israeli driver the previous answer made reference to is Chanoch Nissany, the only Israeli F1 driver to date. He drove for Minardi in 2005.
Jody Scheckter wasn’t the only one in his family to compete in F1. Although Jody is the most prominent, winning a world championship in 1979, in his family also Ian Scheckter (older brother) made appearences in F1. They are both Jewish.
A special mention goes to the French driver Francois Cevert (also Jewish), a great promise hired to replace Jackie Stewart, but died too young at Waltkins Glen in 1973.
Jean Todt’s son Nicolas is still in the F1 circus, and he is manager of several drivers, including Felipe Massa.
On a curious note, Max Mosley, who lately has been associated with antisemitic sentiments, has confirmed his resignations at the end of his term of presidency of the FIA, and has endorsed, guess who? Jean Todt as his successor! Not too many would have guessed that.
In my view Jody Scheckter is the most prominent. Although I don’t remember the drivers name, there was an Israeli who tested a Minardi about three years ago.
