But then wouldn’t the FIA for example frown on what a driver has done to lose their license? I suppose it depends on what. I believe Piquet had a lot of parking tickets as well as speeding tickets.
Jenson Button’s speeding ticket in 2000 in France was for excessive speed–over 140 mph! Rather nuts of him. Most drivers on public roads–anywhere–are not prepared to understand how to react to a car coming that quickly: for example, they could look in the mirror and not see that a car is approaching that fast, pull out into the passing lane and suddenly have that speeding car in their trunk.

Yes, most definitely. The racing sanctioning bodies have no requirement about an actual driver’s license whatsoever. They are 2 completely different areas of jurisdiction. The most famous example is that Kimi Raikkonen did not have a public driver’s license let alone a lot of experience driving road cars when he started in F1. He did have years of karting experience.
Many drivers in various series have had run ins with the law, etc and it didn’t affect their racing. The only example is that I think nascar has fined people for doing things that are egregious off the track. I think they fined Martin Truex for the time when he peed in public, a cop saw him and he got a ticket for public intoxication. It really had nothing to do with driving though.
I dont know but you need a license to race at my local dragstrip so….
